West District Science Day - District 10

Central State University is proud to host the West District Science Day. The West District Science Day is for grades 5-12 and is affiliated with the Ohio Academy of Science. Since Central State University started hosting this event in 2002, 6,182 students have participated. Central State University is an 1890 Land Grant Institution now offering Bachelor of Science degrees in Sustainable Agriculture and concentrations in Agribusiness. The Ohio Academy of Science is a membership based, volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization. The Academy is the leading organization in Ohio to foster curiosity, discovery, and innovation and to unite all who value education, science, engineering, technology, or their applications for the benefit of society. The Academy conducts an annual meeting and science days, and publishes an international, multidisciplinary, scientific journal.

Science Day Information and Objectives of the Ohio Academy of Science

To be eligible to participate in the DISTRICT LEVEL Science Day, you must be in grades 5-12 and received a superior rating at a local (or county, if available) Science Day. All participating SCIENCE DAY STUDENTS, GRADES 5 - 12, All participating students must follow the DISPLAY AND SAFETY REGULATIONS in The Ohio Academy of Science - Science Day Standards http://www.ohiosci.org West District Science Day Students who receive SUPERIOR and EXCELLENT ratings may be eligible for special awards. Students must be present at the awards ceremony to receive special awards. Team projects consisting of 2-3 students, will be accepted at West District Science Day, provided the team has been judged SUPERIOR at Local or County Science Days. Registration fee is $30.00 for EACH team member. The Ohio Academy of Science:

  • Encourage and assure the discovery, understanding, dissemination and practice of education, science, mathematics, engineering, technology and their applications.
  • Facilitate continuing professional development and training.
  • Promote interdisciplinary interaction and collaboration.
  • Provide advice to local, state and federal governments.
  • Promote innovation and adoption of new technologies.
  • Monitor, report on, and advocate funding opportunities for research and development, and education.
  • Widen public understanding and appreciation of science to help create an informed citizenry.
  • Publish and otherwise disseminate peer reviewed, original contributions to education, science, engineering, technology, and their applications, and distribute other information.
  • Award individual, team, and employer performance.
